Project
History
To begin this research, we apply to the Public Goods Fund for Competitiveness which was held by the Corporation for the Promotion of Production (CORFO). This fund aims to: "support projects that develop public goods with the purpose of reducing information asymmetries and the aim of improving competitiveness and accelerating entrepreneurship by reducing uncertainty in critical decision-making to the success of participants and also the final beneficiaries of the project. It is hoped that this information will enable and accelerate the creation of new businesses and industries or the improvement of productivity for at least one important economy’s sector"
The activities included in this research began with a bibliographical review in the facilities of the Servicio Nacional de Geología y Minería (SERNAGEOMIN) and the Sociedad Nacional de Minería (SONAMI). In both places, reports concerning to exploitation, exploration and previous investigations related to the topic were checked over. As the literature review progressed, technical data sheets were created for each reservoir, to summarize its main characteristics and develop a prioritization model that indicates which the most potential reservoirs for its development are.
The prioritization model yielded as an output the prospectus that have more favorable characteristics to be exploited, based on a series of criteria defined by a group of experts in the area. After finding out which prospectus are the most interesting, the project continued with realization of an economic technical evaluation of them. This evaluation considers investments, equipment, and operating costs, to have an idea of how profitable the exploitation of these potential gold mineralization could be.
Parallel to the prioritization and economic model, field trips were made to verify in-situ that the information obtained in the bibliographic review corresponds to what it was observed in those field trips. The main objective of them is to verify the data of the reports and to check the conditions of the place, both in terms of viability aspects for this type of projects and the geological and mineralogical characteristics depending on the main interesting points.
The public good that was created will be available through the website to all people and organizations that require the good for a period of 5 years, after that it may be requested by email to the Offering Partner or the Beneficiary.
The developed public good identifies mineralization gold potentials on a certain moment. In this sense, it is important that it does not require maintenance, as a future update would demand to make proportionally the same tasks contemplated in its development, requiring greater resources that are far from being purely marginal costs.
